For the last few years, through the influences of Western American artists such as Thomas Moran, Albert Bierstadt, Clyde Aspevig, Matt Smith, Greg Beecham, and many others, I’ve been inspired to return to my artistic roots. Acrylics have been replaced by oil paints, I’m once again painting frequently from life, and more painterly, energetic strokes are working their way into my imagery. What you see in this section of my site are the newest of my paintings, and they portray primarily Western American Animals and Landscapes. My hope is to find a balance technically between rendering detail in the focal areas, and allowing the brush work to be seen in less significant spaces to capture (as Greg Beecham once put it) the “poetry” of my experiences out in nature.
